Is rape and sexual assault a problem in UK Hospitals?

Written by Adrian Worthington, published 04-26-23 Rape and Sexual Assault in hospitals

Sexual violence is a serious issue that can occur anywhere, and unfortunately, new research highlighted in an article from the Womens Rights Network shows that hospitals are no exception. Shockingly, the article states more than 6,500 rapes and sexual assaults have been committed in hospitals across England and Wales since January 2019, with some of the victims being children under the age of 13!

The fact that one in seven of these despicable crimes took place on hospital wards during the lockdown period is especially alarming. What’s even more concerning is that despite hospitals having CCTV and secure entry systems, only 4.1 percent of suspects have been charged for these heinous acts.

To learn more about the findings and to download the official report, read the full article on rapes and sexual assaults in UK hospitals published on the Women’s Rights Network’s website and explore the implications of these disturbing statistics.

If you have a loved one in the hospital, their safety should be the last thing you have to worry about. It’s not something that may immediately come to mind, but taking a rape alarm with you to leave with a relative when visiting could make all the difference in an emergency. Our Protector alarm has multiple features such as a proximity alarm and even a light dark sensor that will activate if a draw or cupboard is opened helping to keep both you and your belongings safe. Hospitals should be places of healing, not of fear and violence. It’s time for action to be taken to ensure the safety of patients and visitors alike.
