Plan to introduce drones to help women feel safer at night

A plan is being officially submitted to parliament to use drones to help protect women at night. Controlled from an app the drones will be fitted with AI tech, thermal cameras and a spotlight and could be summoned within minutes directly from your phone.

The service would cost as little as £100 per hour which is a fraction of the cost of police helicopters and the drones could be stationed on the roof of any police station, ensuring local coverage. Each drone would flood light onto the scene and stream video footage which could help deter or apprehend an attacker.

The system is being trialled at Nottingham University, and could potentially be used to tackle all antisocial behaviour, sexual and violent crimes.

Combined with a handheld alarm this could be a welcome addition in helping women feel safer walking alone at night. To find out more detail about the story click here
